About the Expert

Dr Rhiain Morris’ psychology journey started at Swansea University; from there she went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Health Psychology at Stirling University where she gained a Distinction in 2000. After working as a psychology assistant within substance misuse and physical/neurological rehabilitation services (e.g. stroke, MS, chronic pain and fatigue), Dr Morris finished her clinical psychology doctorate at the University of Oxford in2006.

Having developed a specialist interest in clinical health psychology, she first worked at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington within sexual health/functioning services which included the HIV service. She also worked within the hospital’s chronic pain management programme, helping to design the content of the psychology led sessions. Subsequently, Dr Morris moved over to the Health Psychology Department at Northampton General Hospital, working with patients with heart and kidney conditions, including those on dialysis.

In 2010 she started medico-legal/personal injury work for HK Associates and enjoyed it so much that it has been her full-time occupation since.

“I love the broad spectrum of clients that personal injury work leads me to see and I appreciate the challenge of applying psychological knowledge within a medico-legal framework. In particular, I have found my background working with chronic pain and more generally with the psychological impact of health conditions very helpful within medico-legal work; I frequently make use of the bio-psycho-social framework, to aid my understanding and conclusions.”

Dr Morris has lived, studied and worked in Oxfordshire since 2004 and values the opportunity the county allows for varied cultural and social experiences, including beautiful and varied walks.

“I find I am becoming a bit of an amateur historian in recent years and am often planning my next historical exploration. Family commitments mean these are often UK-based, but ideally, I would be volunteering on an extended archaeological dig in Pompeii (I can dream!).”
